Effective immediately, VPN access now supports **authentication with your LoginID and a time-based one-time password (TOTP)**.

Password-based authentication will remain available until September 30th, 2026. Beginning October 1st, 2026, VPN access will be available exclusively with your LoginID and a TOTP code.

To use TOTP, you must enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for your RUB account in the **[[http://rub.de/login|Identity Management system]]** and configure an **[[https://www.it-services.ruhr-uni-bochum.de/services/ias/2fa.html.de|authenticator app]]**.

=====OpenVPN configuration for Android=====
To configure OpenVPN on your Android device, please follow either the short guide or the detailed guide.

=====Short guide=====
  * Install the free app //OpenVPN Connect// from the Google Play Store ([[https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.openvpn.openvpn|here]]).
  * Using the browser on your Android device, download the configuration file [[https://noc.rub.de/download/openvpn/RUBvpn_Standard.ovpn|RUBvpn_Standard.ovpn]], open it with the downloaded app and import it.
  * Enter your LoginID and save the profile.
  * The connection is established and terminated with the slider next to the profile.
  * To connect, use your security code (TOTP).
  * Confirm the request regarding the certificate by clicking //Continue//.

====Installation====
Please install the free app **//OpenVPN Connect//** from the Google Play Store:

====Configuration====
Download the OpenVPN configuration profile with yout Android device. You can open the file directly with the downloaded app. Confirm the import with //Ok//.

Enter your LoginID in the appropriate line. Save the configuration.

====Connecting and disconnecting====
To establish the OpenVPN connection, use the slider next to the saved profile. When startig connection you will be asked for a certificate. Tap on //Continue//.
